idic

(infinite diversity in infinite combinations)

i outgrew my sweatshirt and i was gonna donate it

but i just wasn't ready to part with it

so it sat in the Great Pile of Stuff for a few many lotta years

and it came to pass that the legislature made plastic bags unattainable

and now my sweatshirt is a tote bag

and a conversation starter
here come the Spock quotes...

After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true.

I object to intellect without discipline. I object to power without constructive purpose.

If I were human, I believe my response would be "Go to hell" ... if I were human.

Insufficient facts always invite danger.

In critical moments, men sometimes see exactly what they wish to see.

Without followers, evil cannot spread.

have it your way

just before Mother's Day, Michael Myson called and said that Burger King had Star Trek glasses ... and not to go to all Kellogg's and buy a bunch of BK stuff, trying to get all four of the glasses ... he and his buddy Omen were gonna go to BK the next day and he would check out the glasses and let me know if they were cool ... and if they were cool enough, he and Omen would eat there till they had one of each of the glasses because they like Burger King whoppers ... and then he reiterated that i was not to spend a week's worth of grocery money buying Burger King just so i could have all of the Star Trek glasses and that he really meant it, mom!!!

i dunno - kids these days ... they grow into adults and they get all bossy and judgmental and think they have all the answers ... i wasn't gonna buy a bunch of Burger King stuff - i don't even like Burger King ... their commercials are creepy with that funky mask-faced king ... and i've never forgiven them for the whopper jingle that is still stuck in my head ... hold-the-pickle-hold-the-lettuce-special-orders-don't-upset-us-all-we-ask-is-that-you-let-us-serve-it-your-way ... arghhh - there it goes again ... anywho, Michael followed through and gave me a complete mint in the box set of Star Trek glasses for Mother's Day and they are pretty doggone cool...
that is not my glass - it is Auntia's because she wanted to actually be able to use them ... mine are MIB
...a few days later, the phone rang again ... this time it was NoJo and Gumdrop ... Nona! Burger King has Star Trek toys!!! oh man - you gotta be kidding me - why couldn't it be Mickey D's or Taco Bell or Wendy's or any place except Burger King??? i surfed the Burger King site and found that there were sixteen (groan) different Star Trek toys available only at Burger King ... sixteen kids' meals ... at least fifty dollars worth of gastrointestinal distress ... what to do? what to do?
eBay!
those are not my toys - they are Auntia's and i get to play with them whenever i want - mine are MIP
no nasty BK kids' meals or sixteen trips through the drive-thru ... Spock and company were delivered right to my door by my friendly postal person for a fraction of the price in dollars, calories and stomachaches ... all of them talk or make sounds and they are incredibly cool ... and i didn't have to go all Kellogg's

in the rearview mirror

NoJo and Gumdrop had crazy hair day at school ... and Littlelle decided to participate, too......she doesn't have a lot of hair to work with, so that stretchy band with a bow is about as crazy as her hair can get...
...i went to see Little Nonnie ... she looks like she's in a race ... she was a bit peeved with me because i was later than i should have been and she thought she was gonna miss lunch...
...it rained for four days in a row ... we had to wait for a break in the storm to place flowers and a flag on GeeJay's grave ... i usually go on the sunday before because traffic in the cemetery is crazy on Memorial Day ... most of the graves were already decorated with the flags that Boy Scouts place on veterans' graves ... but they always seem to miss my dad ... so i take a flag with me, just in case ... and Auntia likes to leave a pinwheel...
...Gumdrop graduated from kindergarten ... the kids signed and sang i love little baby ducks ... it was really sweet ... we are all very proud of our little graduate...
can you believe that refrigerator??!!?? i bring home the bacon and Auntia is supposed to put it away ... there was a ham (yes, an entire ham ... blech - but still...) that i had completely forgotten was in there ... lots of fruits and veggies that made it in but never made it back out again ... too many eggs and too much butter ... and who knows what was in the leftovers containers - totally unrecognizable ... and then i found the turkey breast that i put on the middle shelf to defrost four days before ... it had been shoved to the back ... that was the last straw...
it's still a mess ... but at least the best if used by dates that were older than april are gone ... and i can find the oatmeal......this is Gumdrop, Auntia and NoJo in the movie theater as the credits for Star Trek were running ... i think i'll wait till it comes out on dvd to watch it again ... it was dark and loud this time ... and i found myself dozing off...

the cupcakes totes are about half finished ... the wall is weeded ... the geraniums, lobelia, tomatoes, basil, ivy, money plant, bocopa, lily, and more geraniums are all planted, the grass is cut and trimmed (fodder for another post ... i hate weed whackers) ... we visited with the Moths before their barbecue ... Michael Myson's house has been given official approval ... the cakes have been baked and decorated (future post) ... the bills that had to be paid are in the mail ... a savings account for Littlelle has been opened ... and i even managed to scrub one bathroom...

edith keeler must die

star trek
... i liked it ... i think i will allow myself to love it ...... i am not (nor shall i ever be) ready for an end to the mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new lifeforms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before ...... that being said ... i dunno ... i just kept expecting time travel to fix things ... edith keeler had to die ... gracie and george had to be transported to the future ... zefram cochran had to achieve warp ... i have become accustomed to time lines in the star trek multi-verses being fixable ...... i love the new mccoy, scott, pike, uhura and chekov ... i did not like the new amanda grayson (thank gawd she bit the vulcan dust and shouldn't be back) or the very young kirk ... i didn't like kirk's mother, but i did like his father ... i am okay with the new kirk and the new spock ... but i am truly grateful that my spock was there to hold my hand (and i noticed that, with the right lighting and makeup, he remarkably resembles (in a good way) my ex's mother - enough so that they could be brother and sister) ...... i didn't like how ugly the new romulans are ... orion females should probably not attend star fleet academy ... and i can't quite wrap my head around spock and uhura being an item ... that is a bit ...
w-e-i-r-d
i dunno ... i think i need to go back and watch it all over again ... a few more times ... maybe five or six...

...this was in the lobby ... yep, the new transformer movie will be in theaters near you on june 24, 2009 ... can you tell who is excited beyond all measure? enough so that she was willing to stand in a crowded lobby and have her picture taken with BumbleBee...
...who is, by the way, definitely male

cutting the apron strings

Auntia will start cake decorating classes on wednesday ... she needed an apron ... so i made this one for her ... it is from a pattern (by Mary Mulari) called Mary's Reversible Apron ... it takes one yard each of two different fabrics and is easy to make ...... it is too long for Auntia and she has to fold it up ... she can bring the waist ties around the back and to the front and still has enough to tie a bow (on accounta she's so teeny tiny - grrrr)...

...needless to say, when i tried it on i had to remember how to tie a bow behind my back ... when i make the next apron (for me) i am going to eliminate the Velcro on the neck straps (and make a loop that fits me), shorten it by a couple of inches, and curve the sides on the bottom instead of having right angled corners...

and now ... for your viewing enjoyment ... the elusive ... the rare ... the priceless ... the coveted
science beam up badge...

lit up...

...in the dark!!!
pretty cool, huh?!?

there's no intelligent life down here...

i love frosted flakes ... i never got to eat them when i was a kid - my mother would tell me they're just cornflakes with sugar and there was plenty of sugar in the sugar bowl ... but i loved Tony the Tiger with his red bandanna and his growly voice telling me they're gr-r-reat!
when i became a grup and i had my own money to spend, i bought myself frosted flakes ... the real thing ... from k-e-double-elle-oh-double-good-kellogg's-best-to-you!
so ... when i found packages of frosted flakes with the promise of the coveted Star Trek Beam Up Badges inside...
...see ... it says it right there on the package ... BEAM UP BADGE
INSIDE
...i was ecstatic ... there are five different badges and we had collected four ... last week we found the beam up badge boxes in frosted mini-wheats (fiber), corn pops (gotta have my pops), and froot loops (yuck) ... lots of engineering, command, and Romulan badges ... the Klingon badge was won in a bidding war on eBay ...... but where were the science badges??? not in any of my cereal boxes ... the only science badge we could find was on eBay and the bidding had escalated beyond $30 (can you believe that??? thirty dollars plus shipping - and you don't even get to eat the cereal???!!!) and i had to just say no ... still ... i really, really wanted a science badge (Mr. Spock is a science officer, you know) ... this week they were in rice krispies (okay, not my favorite, but rice krispie treats are pretty good) ... and my all time favorite cereal ... so we bought five more boxes of cereal ... groan ... that makes a total of fifteen (yes, fifteen) boxes of cereal over the past two weeks ... a week's worth of grocery money blown on cereal!!! anywho, we went out to the parking lot and Auntia started ripping open the boxes (excuse me, who is the trekker in this family?!?) and said engineering ... engineering ... engineering ... nothing ...... nothing??? nothing??? you mean nothing as in no badge??? you gotta be kidding me!!! no freakin' badge??? nope, no badge - not one bit of plastic in sight ... Tony the Tiger lied to me!!! the box clearly stated that there was a badge inside, but there was no badge ... ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!
she was down to the last box ... rice krispies ... score!!!
my science beam up badge!!!
woo hoo!!!
this is a picture of the boxes of nutritious and delicious (cough) cereal that we have to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks each day till they are gone ... not pictured are the two boxes in the car waiting to be delivered to Michael Myson (he already has the froot loops) and the four boxes of corn pops that we already ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and while watching movies (Nights in Rodanthe - blech - and Leatherheads - meh) and tv shows (double blech)...
...are they worth it?
do you really have to ask?

trekker? who, me?!?

Auntia took me to the movies last thursday ... let's see if i can remember the name ... uhmmm ... 12 rounds ... yeah ... i think that's what it was ... John Cena was the leading man ...... this is her, spending her hard-earned money on tickets ... we went to the matinee, so it was a little cheaper ... but ... still ...... i'm just sayin'...

...and here she is with the tickets in her hot little hands ... look at the eager expression on her face ... this was just before she became fed up with me and told me if i didn't get a move on that i wasn't gonna get my own straw for the free coke she had a coupon for... okay, oh-kay...

...i was dragging my feet because the last time we went to one of her rasslin' movies, it was Nacho Libre, and i came this close to getting up and walking out ... seriously ... anywho, we were proceeding on to theatre 24, to the right and down the walkway...

when i saw THIS! woo hoo!!! Earth Science gave me some theater tickets for christmas and told me that i have to use them for this movie ... oh yeah ... twist my arm, why don't cha...

...and look what my Little Buddy Mason made for me for easter ... a paper bag puppet ... and not just ANY paper bag puppet ... Mr. Spock ... no bunnies for me, thank you very much - i prefer big ears of a different kind...

...he was disappointed in his masterpiece because the puppet part doesn't work (it's on the wrong side of the bag) ... so he made a sign that says JUST DISPLAY!!!
