Esther Marjorie Hill 🇨🇦

the tenth block of 150 Canadian Women is called  Sugar Bowl, but it looks like a devil and we didn't want it in our True North quilts
Melissa's block 10 on the left and dianne's block 10 on the right

so we substituted the (paper-pieced) Courthouse Steps block and it is dedicated to Esther Marjorie Hill

there  was a delay in finishing our blocks (sunday's hours were committed to our First Amendment rights and peace - there weren't enough hours left  for piecing quilt blocks)

stabby stabby stabby

i almost missed working on any christmas in july stitching...
till Melissa reminded me that the next hand embroidered quilt we worked on would be 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Crab-Apple Hill
(we had agreed, again, that Melissa will do the tracing and piecing and i will do the tracing (boo) and stitching, pressing and trimming)

i have renamed it Santa's Tree cuz this panel
is gonna be the center instead of pieced pinwheels ... it will hafta be cut down considerably

and,  of course,  the floss will not be red...
green for everything except the berries and Rudolph's nose ... the background fabric and the (first two) skeins of floss are from stash ... the floss colors are, in Real Life,  more grey than pictured and the fabric is, in Real Life, less grey - sigh

the borders are all traced (it's my least favorite part and Melissa wimped out before she even started, so i traced and traced and traced for four days to prove a point ... i think she was secretly snickering the entire time) and i've stitched half a skein's worth of green...

anywho...

for the next few days weeks months  however long it takes, i will be stabby stabby stabbying the four borders, and pressing and trimming - then this will join the last embroidered (Vintage Tin) blocks in the Great Pile of Stuff...

and they may become quilts someday

totally ... a basket case

where are we going?!?
and why are we in this handbasket?!?

so much better, innit?

turns out this just needed some quilting  (by longarmer extraordinaire Liz Bowman) and a bit of turquoise for the binding

okay ... i'm not so disappointed with her now

and done is better than not done, right?

all together now...

20 blocks from years ago
 plus 25 cornerstones
 and 49 pieces of sashing
there was just enough of the sashing fabric to add a 1" finished border all the way around
and enough of the cornerstone fabric for the binding and the yellow part of two masks for the next protest - Stand With Ukraine

(and there's enough left of the backing flannel for a pair of shortie pj pants - already cut out and ready to sew)

bonus points for one empty pizza box and half of a shelf cleared

win/win

The future depends on what you do today.

celestial map

found in the Great Pile of Stuff...
Melissa's map of a Second Saturday Sampler from the Quilters Studio (a Longmont quilt shop that closed more than ten years ago  - i miss those saturday mornings) ... she pieced the blocks that were provided by the shop, and started another set with stash fabric ... it seems that she lost interest after the first 21 blocks, so the map was shortened to five rows of four...
they will  be 9 inches finished ... gonna need some sashing and corner stones cuz 36 x 45 inches overall is kinda small...
and i think the layout is gonna need some tweaking ... there's a pizza box of stash fabric that will have to be used for any additions to this cuz we have a new (old) rule - no new fabric if there's stash that will work

i don't like the new rule

oil boom

this one is gonna take a while...

when the eXMan couldn't find a screwdriver (he could NEVER find a screwdriver)  he'd go out and buy  a new one - every stinkin' time ... and he never, never, ever put them into the gigantic rolling toolbox that i gave him for christmas ... he had dozens and dozens of screwdrivers - multiple duplicates of every kinda screwdriver you can imagine ... he didn't do that with wrenches or hammers or saws or pliers or wire cutters or any of his other tools - just screwdrivers

anywho, when Melissa handed this to me for stitching, i asked her
what?!? who needs a gazillion oil cans?!? what the what?!?

she just shrugged and muttered something about how NOT FUN it was to trace them ...

stab stab stab - stitching them isn't gonna be any fun, either

just sayin'

there should be a quote here about oil - but none of the quotes that i read were anything but depressing, so i got nothin'
