I think I'd find this book of interest because my mother spent four years in a hospital recovering from TB. Some of the stories that came out of that were horrible. The patients had to sleep outside, winter and summer, and she said she often had to shovel herself out from under snow. She was one of the lucky ones because my grandparents could afford (barely) to pay to have her stay in the main building of the hospital, whereas those not so fortunate stayed in tents on the grounds and if the TB didn't kill them, the cold did. I remember her having to go for yearly chest x-rays for a long time.
