look who has made a surprise appearance at the front porch...
 surprise, surprise, surprise!
and in front of the garage...
golly!!!

i didn't plant sunflowers seeds there or there...
so i asked Auntia...
and she says she didn't plant sunflower seeds there or there, either...
neither of us chomps on sunflower seeds...
and even if we did being the ladies that we are we would never just spit them out...

next year i'm gonna plant sunflowers seeds there and there
on purpose!!!

The sunflower is mine, in a way.

There are not too many fables about man's misuse of sunflower seeds.

  1. What a serendipitous surprise! The front porch sunflower in particular is a gorgeous colour. You could save their seeds to plant next year......sure beats buying a packet.

  2. You know, I used black oil sunflower seeds in bird feeders one year and had the sunflowers growing all over my yard by fall, LOL. Some of the seeds were dropped by birds, but also, some of the bird droppings contain the seeds and they can spring up anywhere. So if you have had any seed eating birds hanging around your flower beds, that could be the explanation. Just sayin...

  3. And I love sunflowers. I am in the process of moving and they definitely will be planted next year. Love how they are coming up in the pot!

  4. Yes, I get them too, presumably via birds. Nicer than seedless droppings!

  5. i LOVE sunflowers! There's a Buggy Barn sunflower pattern that's on my To Do list for summer, I'm running out of summer so it may be a fall project, but I'm doing it this year!

Your sunflowers are special for two reasons, they decided where to grow and picked your house, and they are a very pretty but unusually bright color. Wouldn't it be fun if you were able to harvest the seeds and send them to quilting friends all over the world and next year we would all have your pretty sunflowers growing in our yards??

  6. What a fantastic surprise! Those are the best kind. When you plant them on purpose, they aren't as beautiful!
