snow in summer

there should be a picture of Snow in Summer here...
sigh...
there is not a single blossom left on our plants...

remember Awesome! ?!?
i do love this quilt ... it is Awesome!!!

well...
i had some extra yardage (long story for another post) of the fabric that i am using to stitch Snow Days by Meg Hawkey of Crab-apple Hill
and came up with the brilliant idea of making a winter version of Awesome!
which is what it is actually supposed to be...

so ... the same pattern as Awesome!
Over the River by Meg Hawkey of Crab-apple Hill
but
uh huh - there's that but
different...

blues and purples - i lurve me some purple instead of neutrals...
variegated blue and purple DMC #4240 Mid Summer Night floss instead of #310 Black...
and any other kind of pieced blocks that are not the original pattern...

the embroidery is done...
 fabric is Stonehenge Glacier Blue
 that's LuLu in the backseat
the flamingos are practically covered with snow!!!

and i've started on the pieced blocks...
Awesome! has falling leaves
and i thought that maybe a winter OTR ought to have falling snowflakes...

seriously?!?
after paper-piecing four snowflakes for Auntia's tea towel quilt i thought i would never never ever make another paper-pieced snowflake ...
but then i found this pattern...
by Paper Panache
and ordered it
secretly hoping that it would be out of stock or lost in the mail
it arrived safely...

sigh...

i took it to Kinkos to make some copies and give it a try...
so...
what do you think?!?

easter eats

Auntia expects creamed eggs on toast every easter sunday ... she even went outside to the garden leftovers and brought in some chives that were stretching toward the sun...
isn't that the cutest easter plate EVER?!?

i can count on one hand the number of eggs that i have intentionally eaten since last september and THAT was one of them ... i miss eating eggs!!!

solar panels

all of my grandsons have received or will receive quilts for their birthdays this year
and this one is for Super Sam's birthday in july...
to which he might say, "WAIT!!! Do you mean to tell me that the World does NOT revolve around ME?!?

and i loved the panel so much that i bought one for myself and made this...
i LURVE this fabric!!!

fabric is Out of This World by Stonehenge
quilted by Liz Bowman
pieced and bound by me, myself and i

honestly

every time i pick up a book to read
or decide which movie to go see
i am ever so grateful that i don't much care what anyone else thinks about what i decide to spend my time on...
i enjoyed each one of these books - and it is totally okay with me that they will never be Classic Works of Great Literature
teen-aged angst in a dystopian environment and Steve Rogers - what's not to love?!?

none of these were a waste of time ... and a couple of them actually made me think!!!

twenty-five years in the making

i used to do a LOT of cross-stitching back in the days when rocks were soft and mist was in the air...

but then i found myself with not that much discretionary time
and a lot less patience for counting each and every stitch twice...

there was one little project that i promised myself i would finish
and it only took me 25 years to get around to it...
i LURVE that horse - she's a music box that i bought on a long ago trip to Estes Park - and she plays Mariah

the stitchery in the background was completed in 1989...
the horses and teepees were six months worth of stitching, and the border was another six months...

the little shelf panel only SEEMED to take six months - ha ha ha!!
whose bright idea was this, anyway?!?

cross THAT one off my list!!!

Way out West they have a name
for Wind and Rain and Fire
The Rain is Tess
The Fire's Joe
and they call the Wind Mariah
