clinker and stinker and pinkers

the paper-pieced blocks for the second 1978 tea towel which is screaming out for a better name, lemmetellya quilt are being made with a fat quarter bundle of Fresh Palette fabrics by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company ... i won the bundle when the lovely Thelma at Cupcakes 'n Daisies was having a giveaway for her 200th post waaaaay back in november of 2010...

i loved the fabric when it arrived...

it is lovely...

but
yes - you KNOW there is ALWAYS a but
i put it away because it wasn't telling me that it was ready to be something...

when i searched the Great Pile of Stuff for fabric ... any fabric ... that would work with a linen tea towel from the 70's that is printed with gingham and rick rack, and is kinda Holly Hobbyish and i would have loved back in 1978  that little bundle of fabric kept getting my attention and i kept ignoring it...
too much pink...
not the right yellow...
not enough blue...
and then it fell down on my head for the fourth time and i decided to stop arguing with the fabric and just go with it...

i finished 32 blocks - even though i needed just 26 - cuz i KNEW there would be a few here and there that would refuse to play nicely with each other...

these blocks are just a bit too pink...
not even a bit of pink in the linen tea towel - you guys are OUTTA HERE!!!
i should have listened to myself when i told me not to use the pink fat quarters, huh?!? needless to say, these did NOT make the cut

this block is SUPPOSED to be Handy Andy...
Oh. My. Gawd. who is responsible for this?!?
but i have renamed it Wreck It Ralph ... it did NOT make the cut

this block is Crossed Canoes...
well ... that's a shipwreck, innit?!?
which answers the age old question
can a block be too red?!?
why, yes!!! yes, it CAN!!!
and it did NOT make the cut...

but these DID...
hmmm ... what's next?!?
and now...
on to the next thing...

  1. OMG, that turned out great! Carrie's fabric is a perfect match for that linen towel. I LOVED Crossed Canoes, but have to agree, Wreck it Ralph didn't deserve front billing, I hope all the rejects make it to the back, they are really all quite fun.

  2. Goes to show, when fabric talks you should always listen! That is coming along beautifully.

  3. Oh Dianne, this quilt turned out really pretty! Takes me right back to my final year in high school....it's been such a long time!

I'm with Thelma, I love Crossed Canoes and as much as I like red (and you know I do) some blocks CAN be too red....lol

I admire your creativity so much!

  4. What a beautiful job. These fabrics are perfect. Where have I been - I have stacks of these linen calendar tea towels from my Mom and her sister. Unfortunately, we used them to death because they were the best drying cloth! I will have to pull them out.

  5. Gorge as usual! I am sad the circle of geese didn't make the cut though! I love that block. Will you use the
displaced (so much kinder than rejects) on the back? Or send them to your BFF in Canton bwahahahahaha!!!
Seriously this turned out great. How large is the quilt?

  6. Wow! Look at all those fabulous blocks!!! You've been a busy, busy girl. I like Mama Spark's idea -- use the rejects on the back!

  7. Goodness gracious me, if I had made those blocks they would have been in the quilt. They look fine to me and even if they didn't, I wouldn't be able to bear to reject them. Anyway, the finished quilt looks lovelylovelylovely.

  8. Hey!!!! I once had that same towel! I found some the other day among some junk and though of you. One day when I can use both arms again I'll send them to you. And if you don't want them, then it will be your responsibility to throw them away! Haha
